Abstract

Background:Postoperativecognitivedysfunction(POCD)isasubtleimpairmentofcognitiveabilitiesandcanmanifestondifferentneuropsychologicalfeaturesintheearlypostoperativeperiod.Ithasbeenprovedthattheuseofmechanicalventilation(MV)increasedthedevelopmentofdeliriumandPOCD.However,theimpactofvariableandconventionallungprotectivemechanicalventilationontheincidenceofPOCDstillremainsunknown,whichwastheaimofthisstudy.

Methods:patientsscheduledtoundergoelectivegastrointestinaltumorresectionvialaparotomyinNingboNo.2hospitalwithexpectedduration2hfromJune,toJune,wereenrolledinthisstudy.PatientsincludedweredividedintotwogroupsaccordingtotheschemeoflungprotectiveMV,variableventilationgroup(VVgroup,n=79)andconventionalventilationgroup(CVgroup,n=83)byrandomizationperformedbyrandomblockrandomization.Theplasmalevelsofinflammatorycytokines,characteristicsofthesurgicalprocedure,incidenceofdeliriumandPOCDwerecollectedand
